Scottish Ensemble new season Photography

Earlier in the year I worked on the photography for the Scottish Ensemble’s new season with O Street.  I was given a brief to create some images that would have a fashion edge to the portraits, I really enjoyed trying to get the performers to give me some attitude and get them to posture for the lens.  I had to stitch two coloramas together to get a cove big enough to shoot groups in.  A great company to work with in the studio and then after they let me on stage during a rehearsal at the Queen’s Hall with Chris, my assistant following me round with a flash on a stick to get the latter images.  The resulting images in the brochure look fantastic, lovely design by Andy at O Street.

Pickerings Gin product photography

This has been a busy couple of  weeks shooting, amongst other things, the promotion and product shots for Pickerings Gin. Edinburgh’s 1st gin distillery in over 150 years has been set up at Summerhall by Marcus Pickering and Matt Gammell.  Marcus and Matt, aptly naming themselves the “two royal dicky birds” are producing small batches of handcrafted, beautifully balanced, marvellously mixed Pickerings Gin.

The gin’s mix of soft citrus and coriander botanicals and a crisp, dry finish can even be bought on tap at the Royal Dick, Summerhall only 23 metres from the distillery and 30 metres from my studio!

It’s been great working with Dave and the fine people at Story Design Agency.  I had a good day in the distillery with Marcus and Matt shooting all the copper.  You can go and see for yourself as the distillery is open for visitors by contacting Summerhall in advance.  I must say I enjoyed a few at the opening event last Thursday.  I’m looking forward to shooting the signature cocktails in the next couple of weeks, I’ll post more images when I shoot them.

Cheers.

Portrait

During the festival I tried to take as many portraits of the people involved here at Summerhall, which by my reckoning was over 500, I took just over 250 portraits and now I am sorting through them but this one here is one of my personal favourites. I lit the sitters with light coming through my new window I built when I moved in.

work in progress

I have just moved into a new studio which I am doing up at the old Dick Veterinary school, Summerhall by the meadows in Edinburgh. Summerhall is going to be an amazing arts venue with loads of artist studios, two theatres, a bar, a brewery, tv and film production companies are filming there and and and…..

Any way here are some initial pictures of my space, how I found it and some of the way though my work. I’ll post more when its complete.
