Art, nature and fun at Jupiter Artland

Art, nature and fun at Jupiter Artland

Rather than spending this evening as I usually would on a Friday, with a glass of wine in my hand and enjoying my new fire stove (yes, in Edinburgh it is still just about cool enough to use), I am heading out to the wonderful Jupiter Artland as they celebrate their summer season opening. Although I am sure I will get a glass of wine at some point, I’ll be there on a more professional basis to take photos – capturing the reactions of their invited guests to see this year’s artwork. After months of being locked away to the public, the park will be back open as of tomorrow and I’m sure it will be another brilliant year.

Jupiter Artland has been such a great addition to the Scottish visual arts scene since it opened in 2009 – I love how it opens up contemporary art to families in such a playful way. I have been taking photos for them since their first year and when the sun is shining, it’s a great place for a walk round at the weekend. So I was delighted when I heard the announcement last month that Jupiter Artland is a finalist in Art Fund’s Museum of the Year 2016. They’re up against some strong competition, but would definitely be worthy winners and just their nomination is testament to what a great place it is.

I took these photos this time last year, of their Artsparks family arts activities and launch event. I think they really capture Jupiter Artland’s unique mix of art, nature and fun.
